How to Set Up for Auto Start

Note: These instructions are for Windows 9x. Other operating systems may vary slightly from these exact instructions.

To be effective, this program must be set to start itself whenever the computer is turned on or rebooted. This feature was not set up in the installation to allow the user to become familiar with this program and to get it set up and working first. There are several ways to make a program Auto Start. If you are an experienced computer user, you may use an easier or shorter method. This method is the easiest for me to guide an inexperience user through. This description will assume you have used the default path that the install program suggested. [C:\Program Files\PcGuard] If you changed the install path then adjust the selections as needed. Note: Be certain that PcGuard is not running when you do this procedure.

  1. Open up [My Computer] from your Desktop or other location.
  2. Double Click the [Drive Letter] you installed the program to.
  3. Double Click the folder [Program Files].
  4. Double Click the folder titled [PcGuard].
  5. Look for the Program Icon. [Ivy Leaf]
  6. Right Click on the Icon.
  7. A pop up menu will display. Left click on [Create Short Cut] from the menu.
  8. You will see a new Icon display in the window that says [Shortcut to PcGuard].
  9. Left click on the ShortCut and hold the mouse button down.
  10. Move the mouse and drag the shortcut on to your desktop and release it.

You will see your new ShortCut displayed on your Desktop. The next steps are to move the shortcut into the [StartUp] folder. Use the [Back] button on My Computer until you can not go back any further.

  1. DoubleClick on [C].
  2. DoubleClick on the folder [Windows].
  3. Click [Show Files] if necessary to view the files.
  4. DoubleClick [Start Menu].
  5. DoubleClick [Programs].
  6. DoubleClick [StartUp].
  7. Go to the desktop shortcut you made previously. Left click and hold the button down. Drag the shortcut into the StartUp folder and release it. It will disappear from the desktop and appear in the StartUp folder. The next time your computer is restarted the program will load automatically.

Note: You can remove a program from the [StartUp] folder by using the previous procedure to get to the StartUp folder. Once you are there you can either drag the shortcut out of the folder to the desktop or you can delete the shortcut by right clicking on it and selecting [Delete] from the pop up menu.
