[QUOTE=Hammer_of_Thor]

Hello,

I'm new at dosgamer.com, and I just downloaded doom 2 from this site. I can play it (which is a huge achievement for me), but I haven't got any sound or music and the controls are f*cked up. When I change them in the settings, it still doesn't work. Perhaps someone knows where I'm talking about and/or had the same problem, so please help me!

yeah if you are running games in XP then there are gonna be issues which the best bet would be dosbox and the lastest one that is out here is 0.70 and its what I have and its great so if you need dosbox then go to google.com and type in dosbox and it should be the first one that shows up as one of the sites.

Thanks you guys, but would it really work? I mean, I CAN run the game, I can't just change the settings. I am busy getting my dosbox to run, but being the technical wonder I am, it's going to take me some time.

Hey Hammer_of_Thor your capable of doing this it just depends on how much experience you have with dos and how to work with the games and the program itself lets see I have been using/playing dos and dosgames since I was seven but then move on to windows games when I went to middle school but now I am coming back even though there is alot I have forgotten and don't know I still remember the basics such as the getting from one drive to another

C:

c:\

or the cd\ROTT

but it just depends on how much you know and how long you have been using Dos

Here's how I got DooM 2 sounds & music to work (if you installed it already, delete all files and redownload):

1. Open DOSBox

2. Go to the folder where the doom 2 installer is located

3. (most important) Run DOOM2X.exe (installer) using DOSBox

4. From there on, wait for the install to finish.

5. Now to change sound & music settings, run SETUP.exe

I think that wraps it up. In short, you HAVE to run the installer in dosbox.

If you are trying to run Doom II on XP, you can use a source port. I use ZDoom and it works fine.

Good alternative. You only need the WAD files and you're good to go. I set my ZDoom controls to feel like Counter Strike & other generic shooters.

I did! It was great, but not all weapons showed up when i cheated all weapons. Quake 2 & Duke Nukem weapons were there. The d/l size is about 64-75 MB. I forgot.

Nope have not played it but has anyone had trouble trying to run heretic on zdoom because I am having trouble trying to run that on there it keeps saying that map one is missing a few lines which I am trying or when I do get it to run in doombuilder the graphics look all weird like they are mixed with doom graphics but the color is out of place. Is there anyone that knows how fix this problem because I was working on some heretic maps and I wanted to see how they looked when I play them and I wanted to see if there were any bugs that I could fix.

if you highlight the file, rightclick then click properties and in the general tab go down to attributes and make sure "READ ONLY" in not checked this may help with the controls f**king up.

hey, all you have to do (without using a source port) is opent setup.exe in your doom2 directory and there you can choose your sound card for music. also change controls

Good news I got Heretic to work on Zdoom for my computer I had to delete the one that I had on my computer which was the original cd version Shadows of the Serpent Riders and download the one on this website which it worked so now I am happy so I can start making my Heretic maps using Doombuilder and by the way the wad I am working on is called Presence of the Grave so far some part of the first level is completed but I am still working on it I am thinking about making it 32 maps long like a standard doom 2 map set but because of school it might be delayed.
