| Credit Buddy stores the information in two separate databases. A low security database is used to store payments and confirmation numbers so it can be retrieved (if needed) with a regular text editor; And a high security database (encrypted) to store usernames and passwords. This database is only accessible trough Credit Buddy and is not available to the Internet Browser program. | |||||
| After the program installation is complete you can launch it and start filling up
the url/user/password database even if at the time you are not doing online payments. Url/Username/Password inputs are optional. The program will work even if you chose not to use this section. |

| Creditor is the Bank or institution who gave you the account not the credit card
itself. For example: If one of your Visa cards was given by Citibank, then the creditor is Citibank. In other words, the creditor is the institution name that appears on the credit card. To begin adding to the Creditor database, type the creditor name on the Creditor input field. Optionally you can type or paste on the Login URL input field the web address to access the page for login on to your account. You can also add your registered Username and Password. When you are finished click Add/Creditor on the top menu. |
|||||
| When you are ready to start logging payments, use the Creditor input field to retrieve the information for the account you made the payment to. | |||||
| TOP | |||||
| This field will recognize the first letter you type and retrieve the first creditor
name who matches that letter. You can also press the down arrow to see the complete list of creditors on the database and select with the mouse the one needed. If URL/Username/Password field were previously filled they will load up when you click on the Date field or press the Tab key. The Date input field can be navigated with the arrow keys or opening up the whole calendar trough the down arrow button. If you don't need to make corrections to the date, press the Tab key or click into the Payment input field. |
|||||
| Type the amount for that payment, then Tab or click on the Confirmation input field and enter the reference number or code the bank has assigned to your payment. | |||||

| A new screen containing the actual configuration will pop up and Credit Buddy's main
interface will hide. From top to bottom the configuration screen has the following options. |
|||||
| TOP | |||||
| Automatically Store Data Base on Jan 1st. Default = Yes This setting tells Credit Buddy to store the current database at the beginning of the new year and clear up the displayed database. For this setting to take effect, Credit Buddy has to be launched anytime during the new year. Use Year as filename for DB storage. Default = Yes Credit Buddy will store the annual database using as name the previous year. If you want Credit Buddy to use a different name, remove the mark, click on the Change button, enter a new name on the pop-up screen. |
|||||
| TOP | |||||
| Back up Data Base monthly.
Default = Yes Credit Buddy will make a fresh back up of the current database once a month. The path and file name used is shown on the contiguous text field. To change the path and/or the fiilename click the Change button. If you uncheck the mark, Credit Buddy will not make a monthly back up. (Not recommended) |

| TOP | |||||
| Always on top at launch.
Default = Yes Credit Buddy's main screen will be the top most screen when this setting is on. Always on top can be switched on/off from the main screen but the change will remain in effect till its changed again or the program restarted. If you unmark this option, every time Credit Buddy starts will not be the top most screen. Auto shutdown. Default = No When set to Yes, Credit Buddy will shut down after the amount of minutes, set into the text field, has passed. Disable delete. Default = No Credit Buddy Preferences screen can be password protected so no one but the rightful owner can tamper with the database. Suppose you keep Credit Buddy on a computer at your office and you are afraid other people could, intentionally or not, delete information from the database. to avoid this to happen you can mark the Never delete entries from file and password protect the access to the Preferences screen. If some one attempts to delete an entry from the displayed database, he/she will succeed; But the database on disk will remain unchanged. You can also disallow Credit Buddy to be launched at all by password protecting it. Password at launch. Default = No. If you chose to use this setting, the preferences screen will also require password confirmation in order to be displayed. This screen requires password. Default = No Both options will use the same password and password input will be required every time the program starts and the Preferences screen is invoked. Marking This screen requires password automatically marks Password at launch. However, unmarking This screen requires password will not unmark Password at launch. If both of them are unmarked, the password will be cleared out. Never show this screen again. Default = No If set to Yes (marked) will make the Preferences screen permanently unaccessible. Thus no changes to settings can be done. Be careful with this setting. Use it only if you are sure you will never need to make a change. If you mark this setting an alert will ask for confirmation. Allow duplicate confirmation numbers. Default = Yes Protects of double entering the same transaction. When it is set to No and a duplicate confirmation number is entered, even for different Creditor, a confirmation request will pop-up. Never show passwords. Default = No When set to Yes, will not display a username's companion password on the main interface. Instead will display the message - Hidden - Note that the special capturing function will be also disabled. For more about this read the Special Capturing function. Use focus aids. Default = Yes The contiguous buttons "NoFocus" and "Focus" represent the current color setting for the main interface focus aids. Focus aids are thin color bars shown at both sides of the section that has focus at the time. Disabling this setting will not display the color bars. Clicking on the "NoFocus" and/or "Focus" buttons allow you to replace the default colors. |
